hi all...
i have a 9 node LAN, with 5 nodes running windows 2000 (build 2195 sp1), 3
running RH 6.2 (GNOME + Enlightenment) and 1 windows 2000 Server as a
Primary Domain Controller.
I installed the linux machines cause the guys here were sick of win2k's
exxxxtra-loooooooooong bootup time and trademark MS instability (tho i have
to admit they have done quite a decent job with win2k - as long as you stick
to the plain vanilla stuff, that is). the people here are quite passionate
about linux - and windows camp is sounding quite hysterical ;)
i'd get more converts to the Light if i could get SAMBA to work so that the
linux boxes could browse shared folders under the win2k machines and vice
versa. right now, i manage inter-OS data transfer thru sneakernet, ftp and
email. Im getting desperate - even thinking of resorting to VMware or WinE
and, on my wishlist, i've got two printers - an epson stylus 460 and a
lexmark z11 on the network. i'd love to be able to print to them
and last but not least, i'm stuck with a TTF problem here.... the gist is
that in netscape, the fonts look really yucky. of course, installing an X
windows true type font server was a good idea - and i did that. only thing
was that i dont know how to select them fonts in Gnome - which, unlike KDE
doesnt come with its own FONTMANAGER. Anyone got any experience with a
fonts.alias file?
plus, anyone here runnning pinstripe? or KDE 2 ? or Xfree 4 ?
thanks
Aniruddha Karim Shankar
