Hi

Try disabling DMA if you have turned it on. Also turn off any BIOS opimizations
like CPU to PCI burst write enabled. (Or load BIOS defaults :-)).

Basically bring your hard disk to lowest optimization level. If it does not work
there, check your mobo and HDD. Find out what's faulty and replace it.

Also check your cabinet/HDD cables. Try with a new set. It's good idea to do it
anyway. Faulty cables are a performance nightmare.

Another possibility is IDE controller behaving crazy, try mounting your hard
disk to another slot. Mind you this needs to change your /etc/fstab, I suppose.
I think it should work fine if that's the only HDD in your machine. But I am not
sure....
