No, it doesn't make me wonder at all. If this (vital) step was not there, any
tom dick and harry could sign up some poor guy's mail id - and have him get all
the LIH mails, whether he wants it or not.
The guy'd be mailbombed with 100+ mails per day - and he would then be
perfectly justified in complaining to Thath's ISP and having
lists.linux-india.org disconnected.
It has happened before - to 'portals' which do not confirm subscriptions but
blindly mail to every address they see ... they generally wind up either
searching for a new ISP or rotting in the RBL - http://www.mail-abuse.org/rbl -
for spamming
