Linux 6.1??? Linux is on 2.4 right now (upcoming is 2.4). You probably mean RHL 6.1. 
Hardware...well, as long as it doesn't say desiugned for windows, it should work with 
Linux. IIRC, some Yamaha cards (724?) don't work with Linux, most interrnal modems 
don't. I would avaoid the
SiS 6215, and the i810 motherboard. Try an AMD cPU instead, Asus motherboard.

Where are you based? Contact your local LUG.

Looks like you are from the distant future ;)
Grab the latest kernel RPMs from Redhat, kernel 2.2.16.
Did you recompile your kernel, by any chance?
