Hi,
Here we have got a peculier problem.
We had a program called sptar which was allowing us to append to tapes under SCO. This
sptar was given to us by DCM systems.
Now we want to use the same binary under linux using ibcs module.
The problem is that it works fine when we backup or append. But when we try to take
the listing of the tape it shows only the last file which was appended and this
listing of last file goes in a never ending loop. The other files which were backed up
are not present on tape.
This sptar uses a device called nrctg whose major and minor numbers are 46 and 13.
Since out tape device file is /dev/st0 with different major and minor numbers, if we
create /dev/nrctg with 46 & 13 it is not recognised as tape device, obviosly.
Is there any way we can use this sptar on linux using nrctg device or we will have to
hack to kernel sources for changes the major and minor numbers of scsi tape devices ?
This is going to be a huge task :-)
Waiting for your replies.
Thanks in advance.
Rajesh
