Several possible reasons -
Try increasing the queue process interval (-q) in case delivery sessions are
timing out
Your sendmail is old - but not _that_ old - there were issues about a broken
flock() in linux affecting older sendmails, which caused this. Upgrade
sendmail and other key linux packages and see if this goes away (upgrade anyway
- 8.8.7 is an antique)
