Well, speaking approximately, the same disk could have it's 1024th
cylinder at the end of the first 8GB or the first 500MB depending upon
the disk label.A disk with C cylinders, H heads and S sectors per track
has C*H*S sectors and can store C*H*S*512 bytes.For example for a 20 GB
hard disk it could be C=2482 H=255 S=63 or C=39560 H=16 S=63.Practically
I have found that even if the boot partition is within the first 1024
cylinders the old lilo cant boot my system unless the root partition
also starts within the first 1024 cylinders.
