Hi,
Try the following:
enter root password - u will be dropped into a shell.
Now run fsck with the command
#e2fsck /dev/hda5
or
#fsck /dev/hda5
the problem should be fixed. If it still does not, then vi ur fstab file
and for the entry /dev/hda5 replace the last two number entries with 0 0
