 sort of :)

Download the script from http://cork.linux.ie and take a look at it - or see

Use pine or mutt to set the sender domain (set envelope_from). If you use
/bin/mail[x] then do masquerading (that's documented in the sendmail FAQ as
well). Pine - press S-C from the main menu and set User Domain.

Configure sendmail to accept mail from unresolvable domains and to queue your
 mail.

sorry buddy - user@localhost does not appear in the MAIL FROM: part does it -
that is, check the from: header and the return path.

the pcqupdt script does not meddle with sendmail afaik

see above - now use the script :)

sendmail is not accepting mail from unresolvable domains / your smarthost is
not accepting mail from unresolvable domains (like localhost.localdomain say).
Not accepting mail from unresolvable domains is perfectly good (and sensible)
for permanently connected hosts - but not for sendmails behind dialups /
 firewalls.

Ahhh... if you are using mutt then no hassles at all :)

Take a look at these - (for newer mutts - 1.2.x say).

        set envelope_from

        set from="[EMAIL PROTECTED]"
        set hostname="oyeindia.com"
set use_from # always generate the `From:' header field

For older mutts, replace set envelope_from with

set sendmail="/usr/sbin/sendmail -oi -oem -f [EMAIL PROTECTED]"

It *should* work - post the relevant sections from your .muttrc if you need

 Yes

 That's 8.9.3 with an 8.9.3 .cf file (redhat 6.0 - with linuxconf - generated
some fairly broken - and vulnerable to hacking - 8.8.7 .cf rulesets which
totally broke the 8.9.3 sendmail security)

VSNL's nameservers are the best you can use

> Also should there be a "search" or "domain" for home m/c? If yes, what?

 search goatelecom.com

 should do ...

emacs does that for you. I wouldnt say "shift your mail client" though - as
there is more than enough procmail to fix this
