CSCMail is sort of problematic because there has been no development on it for some 
time now....you might want to look at its successor, a client called Pronto, 
http://muhri.net/pronto..though you will still face the same problems because it needs 
some new Perl modules.

Yup, kmail is nice, 1.1.29 at least, also, try sylpheed, 
http://sylpheed.good-day.net.
