Hi Mira (aka Mohan),

Are you sure you compiled in SCSI support into your new kernel?  08:01
is sda1 (the first SCSI disk) and it looks like SCSI support is
missing.

Of course, it could also be that you didn't re-run LILO after
installing the new kernel as other people have pointed out.
