[LIH] Resizing partions

Hi lists,
Happy new year everybody.

I have a 840 mb hdd and I'm running only linux. Now I want to have a dos
partion on the system of about 40 mb to install a C compiler.
How do I make that new dos partion without re-installing everything. 
I have necessary space on /usr and /opt
