i have telneted the localhost 512 it gave me this error
trying 192.168.1.4....
telnet:Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

but when i run
# telnet juhi (localhost name)

it is working very fine asking for log on

ping juhi is also responding fine

ifconfig is also responding properly with both ethernet eth0 as 192.168.1.4
& so do loopback lo

what the Hell has happened to red hat $#@!. I got mails declaring the same
problem on deja but not much answers. 

Thought about searching red hat itself....cant this folks even put a 
search interface to their individual lists. Guess what i got on searching
for "lpd" ....'no matching docs found try using fewer words' [sic]. LIH
interface is far more effective than what RH has put up....( Thaths are you

OK back to the problem

still no positive solutions, but check if you can ping localhost, or
telnet localhost 512 ( the lpd port ). Also see what ifconfig returns. I
am still looking
