Which version of ssh are you using? I don't think openssh ships with
sftp. You are probably better off using scp instead (and switching
to openssh).
scp user@remotehost:/full/path/to/file /local/path/to/file
scp /local/path/to/file user@remotehost:/full/path/to/file
