Hi,

I am trying to install and Win 98 RHL 7.0 on a system having Celeron 667
MHz CPU, Intel 810 based motherboard with a 20 GB Seagate Hard Disk.
The HDD parameters as reported by BIOS are :

38792 Cylinders 16 Heads 63 Sectors LBA

while Disk Druid and FDisk (with RHL 7.0) show the same as

2434 Cylinders 255 Heads 63 Sectors.

I want to have the following arrangement on the HDD

Primary DOS Partition 2 GB
Extended DOS Partition 8 GB
Linux Boot Partition 16 MB
Linux Swap Partition 128 MB
Linux - 9 GB (approx.)

I first created a 2 GB Primary DOS partition using the DOS Fdisk and
then proceeded with installing Linux. While installing RHL 7.0, the
following partitioning was done using fdisk:

Device Start Cyl End Cyl Blocks Type

hda1 1 262 2104483 Win95 FAT32 (Pri DOS)
hda2 263 265 24097 Linux (Linux Boot)
hda3 266 1429 9349830 Linux Extended
hda4 1430 2434 8072662 Win95 FAT32 (Ext DOS)

hda3 contains

hda5 266 1413 9221278 Linux Native
hda6 1414 2434 128488 Linux Swap

After the partitioning, when I start installing the packages, the system
hangs / does not respond while formatting the filesystems. What could be
the problem ? I have repeated this process a number of times but
everytime the system hangs while formatting the linux filesystems. Is
there any limit on the hard disk size / partition size ? Can it be coz
of the difference in Disk Geometry as reported by BIOS and RH Linux
Fdisk (and Disk Druid) ? I am creating a separate Linux Boot partition
(below 1024 Cylinders - here the cylider number is as per the fdisk) as
suggested in the RHL reference guide. Please help.

Thanks,

Manish
