you could ask the admin :) For the servers running there (mail, web etc)
telneting to port 25 / 80 / whatever and issuing the appropriate commands
would get you the info.
For backbones, do a traceroute, arin lookup etc. or if you have access to
a bgp router (query tools at places like http://nitrous.digex.net for
example) find out what AS (arin autonomous system) it is under.
