Hi!

I recently downloaded and compiled a new kernel v2.4.0 while at the
same time keeping the older v2.2.14-12 handy.

I have compiled into the new kernel a lot of firewalling options, half
of which I thought seemed nice to have(netfilter etc. etc.). The new
kernel seemed to work well in almost every thing i used the system
earlier for. However I started getting this strange error recently.

I use the facilities of two ISPs - MTNL and NOW. I use MTNL for mail(pop3)
and NOW for connectivity/mail(smtp). The problem is that when I boot
into 2.4.0 I can connect to almost everything on the web but my
current ISP's mailservers - both SMTP and POP3. However, when I boot
into the older 2.2.14, I can connect to the very same servers for the
same services ... At all times I can connect to the other ISP(MTNL)'s
mailservers for the same services.

I am attaching a sample output below. I am at my wit's end trying to make out
any sense of the whole thing. Has this got _anything_ to do with
default firewalling rules of netfilter?

Thanks ,
 Sandip

P.S. NOW is running Netscape Messaging Server while MTNL is using
Sendmail
