Thanks Raghu. Will try than once I install Debian. However slrn comes with
same type of utility called slrnpull which does the same thing, news
caching and deleting the cache after a specific no. of days.

I wanted to save some of the messages from newsgroups so that I can read it
using mutt in future. Binand's suggestion worked. pressing 'o' in slrn
stores the message in $HOME/News/<newsgroup name with first alphabet as
capital>. I can read the messages in mutt like regular emails.
