I would suggest you the same thing. Before looking anywhere else

do this

man lilo.conf

The answer lies there which says

--------------
 password=password
              The per-image  option  `password=...'  (see  below)
              applies to all images.

...
...
...
*later in the man page* you find this

   password=password
              Protect the image by a password.
