NO that is perfectly logical.
I already have several servers running with only CDROM (NO HARD DISK) for
IVRS /httpd.
No one logs to the machine because nothing can be written on the machine.
It boots with the loadlin or lilo and mounts the cdrom as / and starts all
the required daemons.
It creates ramdisk to save /var files.
You can run nfs/samba/ftp/mars_nwe to save data file on other server.
And you can bypass login by putting a /bin/sh entry in /etc/inittab and get
a # prompt too.
Again no fear because no one can write to files.
Advantage-
1. The machine is hackproof as there is no hard disk.
2. No file system corruption and fsck as there is no writtable media.
3. Just reboot and your server is on line.
4. You save on UPS and hard disk cost.
5. and many more....
I am planning to add samba, NetWare, mail.
Any suggestions?
