Hi
Well, most likely you haven't configured your modem settings properly.
These are the steps that u normally need:
* Identify the COM Port, I/O Address & IRQ of your modem.
COM1 -> /dev/ttyS0, COM2 -> /dev/ttyS1 ... so on
If u have a PCI modem, u can do 'lspci -v' to get the I/O & IRQ.
* Use setserial to inform the serial driver where ur card sits.
Eg. setserial /dev/ttyS0 uart 16550A port 0x6700 irq 4
* Now invoke minicom as 'minicom -s'
* Select 'Serial Port Setup' & set your device appropriately. (Whatever u
gave with setserial'). Also set the speed correctly.
* Select 'Save Setup as..' & enter a filename, where your settings will be
stored. For example, if u give filename as 'mysettings', you can invoke
minicom next time onwards as 'minicom mysettings'
* Now select 'Exit' (not 'Exit from minicom'). Type AT and then ENTER. U
must get OK. Type ATZ to reset to default values & to go onhook.
Now your modem is ready to use !
[If u are getting garbled chararcters, it's likely that the baudrate or
Parity/bits settings are wrong, OR, someother application was already
using the modedm & hasn't yet hungup. Press alt-h to hangup the call
Else press +++ to get into command mode & type ATH].
