Good for you. Have you told mutt to look for mail?
mailboxes `echo $HOME/mail/*`
should do the trick

http://mutt.linuxatwork.at (the rpms marked -cfp are compiled with Roland
Rosenfeld's compressed folder patch, which lets you read / edit mailboxes which
are compressed as .gz files - not tar.gz as Rajesh Fowkar found out sometime
back <g>)
