Upgrading involves downloading the kernel patches, applying them to your
kernel source tree, re-configuring & re-compiling the kernel, running
lilo, rebooting the system & waiting with fingers closed to boot up the
system (well, when the kernel is on bleeding edge :-)
So if u are ready for all these, go to www.kernel.org & download the
patches & 'man patch' to see how to apply the patch. Then read the
section '3. How to actually configure the kernel' from Kernel-HOWTO to
configure & install the new kernel. 'man lilo' to make lilo install the
new kernel. All of it's real fun, if u want to learn & u have a PC to play
with.
If u are not ready, then as some1 pointed wait for a distro.
