Hi LIH

I am using Caldera linux 2.2.14 uptill today morning every thing was fine
.While booting the second time time(during the initial start up ) i found at
checking File it shows fail and prompts me to

Use root passwd for maintainance.
or CTRL -D for proceeding further .
Whin i Pressed CTRL-D it gets struk at starting Run level 6.

What i did ..
since the m/c was a test setup
I gave the root passwd and ran fsck -A

after lot of YESes!

I came to the # prompt
There was a note also that-:)

"Please note that root file system is currently mounted read only To remount
it read-write
#mount -n -o remount,rw/
"
when i did this and restarted linux all was well the problem was solved !

My query is ....

i>Why did this happen !

ii>was it the fsck -A that rectified the problem or the mount command.Or
both.

iii>In the archives i read that while booting if linux gets struk fsck -A
does not work .what other options are there ?Is there some thing like
manually and automatically in fsck command..

iv>what should one do in such a situation ?

Regards....
neeraj

(This is the first time i came across this
problem).................................
