Obviously the problem. /bin has to be on the / partition.

Won't work. If you read the above message carefully, you will notice that /bin has
been moved.
So he will never be able to spawn a shell in any mode.
I suggest you boot off the rescue mode of your CD, mount both partitions, and move bin
back to /.
