I think it (masquerading the envelope-sender address) should work if you
make sure that the masquerade_entire_domain and masquerade_envelope
features are enabled. (Refer to the README file in /usr/lib/sendmail-cf)
Also root not being masqueraded is probably because it is specified in
the EXPOSED_USER class. (I think the default cf file includes root in
the list). So removing the line that says "CE root" from the sendmail.cf
should fix that. (Haven't tried it though - because I've never seen a
reason to send outgoing mail as root :))
