Thanks to everyone who helped out with my recent problem. As much of the advice I received said, it turned out to be a hardware problem. The RAM which I had recently added was not compatible. And to a non-techie like me, this was simply not so obvious! I've since sorted the problem and have installed KDE2 on my PC. Thanks again to all who so kindly volunteered their timely help. It was just on time to get my hardware supplier to recognise what was wrong...
