Hmmm.... Linux and BSD Unix are two separate things. You must read up more on these issues (via www.linux.org, www.freebsd.org, www.netbsd.org, www.openbsd.org, for starters) and form your own opinions. As far as firewall goes, please use IPCHAINS (wonderful HOWTO written on it and available as standard documentation) under Linux. Terrific manipulation and excellent security features. IPCHAINS is actually a packet filter which manipulates things at the kernel level. So security at the packet (lower level) is taken care of. However, security is a major item and one cannot just conclude that a particular os is "better" -- I would say that "better" is purely a subjective term. One needs to know the various features and reasons of different OS's and then decide which feature (security or otherwise) is good for the current task at hand.
