hi,
It is possible to have the user have the same env, dirs etc even without
roaming profiles in linux. But for windows U will need roaming and still
things wont be consistant. The Idea is have all the roaming data in the linux
home dir of each user.use samba and integrate the linux machine with the
winnt domain by making a machine account and making linux samba joun the
domain.Make the HOME share in samba so that each users homedir is
automagically shared(but U will not see these in network neighbourhood until
U connect once).and in winntmake the users homedir and roaming profile as
\\<linuxmc>\<username>.so winnt roaming is achived.for linux export the /home
or were ever the home dirs are and mount them using NFS on each linux
workstation or use autofs to automount home dirs for each user.U can also use
LDAP or NIS for centralised user mgmt.in linux samba u can make your winnt
PDC as the password server so that clients are authenticated by the NT
server.sync linux/nt passwords and users manually/or use the pam_smb pam
module to auth users with out having an linux account(not adviceable as
security is poor/there also exists a buffer overflow hack in this module).I
guess this might help your situation or atleast give u some ideas.

Hi

I have been assigned a task to integrate the task for unifying computing
resource for my organisation.... Now the main task of this project is to give
the users a roming profile i.e. they can log from any pc around the
organisation and get their personal files.... and there should be a single
login and passowrd....

Now i have read some LDAP howto and Samba ... but since we have many kinds of
clients which include Citrix Thin Clinets and IBM NC's and some normal IBM
P-III's all are running either windows or Linux....

Is it possible to integrated LDAP and Samba or something like that ...
because samba supports roaming profile and authentication for Windows and
LDAP for Unixes.... so how can i unify both the things to one ... so that a
person with single login and password can see his/her files in either of the
OS...

Thanks

anand
