Hi

SMTP connection delays from clients to your server can be avoided by

1. Setting up proper DNS and rDNS for your clients
2. Setting Ident timeout to zero in sendmail
3. Setting up a hosts.allow entry for your LAN (if you dont want to set up DNS
properly)
