Thanks for your reply. I think I inadvertantly deleted some file maybe 
/dev/fd0 while doing some work as root. After that I recreated the /dev/fd0 
file using the procedure in man pages. I created a link to /mnt/floppy too 
and gave the auto mount etc. commands in fstab file. I was unable to sort out 
the problem and was getting the above mentioned error. I upgraded my distro 
finally and was able to rectify the problem. Now I am having some problem 
with Kde2 which I am trying to rectify. If you can tell me where I might have 
erred it will be useful to me. Also you may kindly direct me to any links 
which will give me some better understanding of the whole problem. Thanks 
again.
