Thanks for your reply. I think I inadvertantly deleted some file maybe /dev/fd0 while doing some work as root. After that I recreated the /dev/fd0 file using the procedure in man pages. I created a link to /mnt/floppy too and gave the auto mount etc. commands in fstab file. I was unable to sort out the problem and was getting the above mentioned error. I upgraded my distro finally and was able to rectify the problem. Now I am having some problem with Kde2 which I am trying to rectify. If you can tell me where I might have erred it will be useful to me. Also you may kindly direct me to any links which will give me some better understanding of the whole problem.
