Thanks for the info on cmpci and als4000. I went ahead and bouht a cmpci
card. The card was detected fine enough , but now new problems have crept
in.
whenever i play in xmms or freeamp, the mp3 plays fine enough for some time
but then the sound dies. i have to reconfigure the card after which it works
fine. in freeamp, the sound also dies but when i pause and unpause the songs,
it again starts playing again.
however , using the console based mpg123, the songs are played well enough,
without any hindrance. what problem may be there. the same problem occures on
a friends onboard cmpci card.
the c-media website lists their own drivers for enabling 4 channel ouput and
spdif support, can these solve the issue. else just a hunch, can buffer
settings of xmms/freeamp make a difference.
And yes i am of mandrake7.2, kernel-2.2.17
