The architecture upon which Netscape 4.x was based was fundamentally not
suited for the component architecture. Furthermore, the code contained
lots of propereitary and licensed code which Netscape was legally not
allowed to distribute in source code form.

Mozilla is a Good Thing. It is well componentized. It is possible to rip
the rendering engine out and embed it into other applications. Such things
would never have been possible with Netscape 4.x
