I have a friend working in valinux - he claims that their 2.2.18-pre11 kernel
is patched against this bug - and is a bit better than the regular kernel
(with "a decent software RAID I can use" <= his words)

<ftp://ftp.valinux.com/pub/kernel/2.2.18pre11-va2.1/RPMS/optional/SRPMS/kernel-2.2.18pre11-va2.1.src.rpm>

The srpm also has over a 100 patches applied by valinux ...
