Hi,
got a problem in configuring my networkcard. It's an ISA one. The SUSE 7.1
installer told me he configurured it with 8390.o although win2k and win98
recognized it as NE2000 compatible. When I give it a ping on it's self
assigned address the lamp doesn't flash. Is this a proof for that the card
is spoilt?! I've got an Award BIOS, where I put the PNP to "manual" and the
irq 10 to RESERVED, also tried leaving it on his default (PCI). Any
iformation or Howto regarding this stuff would help.
(running RedHat 7)
first I did a
# insmod 8390 -P io=0x300 -P irq=10
# modprobe 8390
than a
# lsmod.
the output was
Module Size Used by
8390 6072 0 unused
...
after that I did a
# ifconfig -a
only the loopback was recognized.
than did
# ifconfig eth 0 0.0.0.0 up
that's the error message:
SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
eth0: unknown interface: No such device
eth0: unknown interface: No such device
thanx in advance
Tom
