hmm maybe initialising both of them together is causing the problem. Can
you try putting only one in the conf.modules and load the other manually.
I dont know whether this will help or not.

I would also appreciate any help in killing a stuck modprobe. I have faced
it once during installation ( freezed on loading the ide-cd related
modules )
