Hi,

I am facing problems in installing libgnome-dev package under Debian 2.2
(potato). The error I get is as follows :

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
debian:~# apt-get install libgnome-dev
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
libgnome-dev: Depends: libgnome32 (= 1.0.56-3) but 1.2.9-1 is to be instal
Depends: gdk-imlib-dev (>= 1.9.0-1) but it is not going to be
Depends: xlib6g-dev but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libgtk1.2-dev but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libart-dev but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libgnorba-dev but it is not going to be installed
Depends: liborbit-dev but it is not going to be installed
              Depends: libesd0-dev
E: Sorry, broken packages
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Is libgnome-dev package broken with potato ??

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
debian:~# dpkg -l | grep libgnome
ii libgnome32 1.2.9-1 The Gnome libraries
ii libgnomemm 1.0.3-1.1 Shared library of Gnome--, a C++ wra
ii libgnomesuppor 1.2.9-1 The Gnome libraries (Support libraries)
ii libgnomeui32 1.0.56-3 The Gnome libraries (User Interface)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

As can be seen. Potato comes with libgnome32 1.2.9-1 and libgnome-dev asks
for libgnome32 = 1.0.56-3 ??? Why ???
Same thing applies to gdk-imlib-dev ?

I am unable to compile an gnome programs from sources due to this. I can
not compile icewm with gnome menu support due to this. I had to boot to
Mandrake to do this.

If anybody can help me to solve this problem I will be really greatful.

Thanks in advance.

Regards
