 Use a Mailertable

 domain.com relay:smart.host
 domain.com relay:[ip.of.smart.host]

 and makemap it into mailertable.db.

Of course, that means you need to add
 FEATURE(`mailertable',`hash -o /etc/mail/mailertable')
 in sendmail.mc and rebuild sendmail.cf

The -o = "ignore errors" - you might want to lose that in case there's any
 problem.

By the way, I suggest you send out all mail through the smarthost (and turn
off dns lookups locally when sending out mail through the smarthost).
 http://www.hserus.net/sendmail.html should help.
