crypt is a c function. 'man crypt' for more details.
For encryption tools, use gpg. i.e. GNU Privacy guard. It's equivalent to PGP.
On my RHL6.2 box,it's part of gnupg-1.0.1-1 package. You can also get from
www.gnu.org.
For frontends to this, there is a KDE one called as genehimis. Not sure of
the name need to search. Will send it later....
