I upgraded to kernel 2.4.4 today evening - didnt run across this problem.
A make distclean / make mrproper before repeating the process (save the
.config file elsewhere, copy it back and do a "make oldconfig" first, plz)
should help.
Also, is the modutils updated? There's a further update (to modutils 2.4.2)
specified in Documentation/Changes.
