[LIH] Bootdisk format

I created a Linux bootdisk while installation. I'm trying to format it now
using the format command in M$-Dos ..and it says:

Checking existing disk format.
Formatting 1.44M
Invalid media or Track 0 bad - disk unusable.
Format terminated.

Is it just the disk went bad and has to do nothing with Linux or something
else ?
