I've been having compression problems over ppp for quite sometime now. After
being connected for sometime, /var/log/messages shows entries like VJ
compression lost, disabling, even bsd compression is lost sometimes. I got rid
of the van jacobsen compression errors after adding "novj" tothe ppp options
file, but the "compression sync lost" still persists...and once i get that
mesage, it becomes impossibly slow to download anything,and the only recourse
left is to redial.
What i have tried so far is
1. disabling compression(something i really donot want todo)
2. connecting at lower speeds like 57600 and 38400 instead of 115200.(but this
helps in no way, i still get those errors)
If it helps, i am using the latest ppp 2.4.0 and new modutils, I notice this
problem with the 2.4.x kernels.
