i have two computers both running redhat 6.2 and being a networking
newbie i haven't been able to get things moving along. both computers
have same realtek based cards properly installed, i.e ifconfig eth0 on
both computer yeilds profitable results... yet, when i try to ping the
addresses (not host name) it showsdestination host unreachable, though
ping work for the local machine's IP adds

i have read a couple of home networking how-tos, ethernet how-to etc
and that is it.... Tanenbaum is yet to be conquered so i am pretty
weak as far as fundamentals go.

Some figures you might want to check...
network is set to 192.168.0.0 (able to ping -b)
broadcast add - 192.168.0.255 (able to ping -b)
Subnet - 255.255.255.0
gateway - 192.168.0.1
(Consequently... i disabled default gateway and IPv4)

These settings are same for both computers... other than that one
computer has 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 is the ip add for the other
computer.

*Whenever i try to ping, the leds at the back of the ethernet card
don't blink/glow.* *if the cards were conked then i guess there is no
question of eth0 interface coming up at boot time. *

Thanks
sukrit
