hi there,
to get linux gui on windows u need to sun a Xserver(not Xclient,Xclient is
the program which you run on linux server) on the windows box.u can either
use xdmcp to query the linux server to get a login screen or use a telnet
session and use the command export DISPLAY=<ipaddress of windowbox>:0 to
first set your display variable and then run the xprogram.do not use startx
as it is only for starting Xwindows locally.to start kde env type the command
startkde or to start gnome usr the command gnome-session.similarly for other
exvironments.
there are many Xwindows servers available for windows.check out
www.starnet.com or www.xmanager.com for a commercial Xserver.they also offer
a shareware version.for free Xserver get the mi/x server from
www.microimages.com orget a copy of the cygnus port of Xfree86 4 server from
xfree.cygnus.com.you will also have to get the cygnus runtime dlls for
this.there is a free java based Xserver at www.weirdx.org.

Hi,
We have a linux server and Windows clients.
On the linux server, we are able to give startx and run the x server
If from a terminal emulator we login to linux and run startx... startx =
crashes.
My understanding is, we have to install an xclient which runs on =
windows. This will talk to the xserver on linux. Under this xclient we =
can access linux. Is this correct ?
If so, is there any free xclient software which will run under windows.
Thanks,
