Thankx for the response. And yes, I'm playing the MP3 from the HDD and not
the CD drive.

I checked it out and heres output 1:

---------------------------------------------------------------
# /sbin/hdparm /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
 multcount    =  0 (off)
 I/O support  =  0 (default 16-bit)
 unmaskirq    =  0 (off)
 using_dma    =  0 (off)
 keepsettings =  0 (off)
 nowerr       =  0 (off)
 readonly     =  0 (off)
 readahead    =  8 (on)
 geometry     = 973/128/63, sectors = 7849170, start = 0

----------------------------------------------------------------

 A suggestion/correction. Run following commands and mail the output

# /sbin/hdparm -tT /dev/hda
# /sbin/hdparm -mcd /dev/hda
# /sbin/hdparm -i /dev/hda

 Shridhar

Output 2:
----------------------------------------------------------------
# /sbin/hdparm -tT /dev/hda
/dev/hda:
 Timing buffer-cache reads:   128 MB in  1.80 seconds = 71.11MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads:  64 MB in 22.58 seconds =  2.83 MB/sec

----------------------------------------------------------------
Output 3:

# /sbin/hdparm -mcd /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
 multcount    =  0 (off)
 I/O support  =  0 (default 16-bit)
 using_dma    =  0 (off)

----------------------------------------------------------------

Output 4:

# /sbin/hdparm -i /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
