Hai,
I configured squid and it works, but.....
The situation: I've partitioned the disk and installed Linux on a Win98SE
machine. The Win98SE machine is presently acting as the Proxy (using its
built-in Internet Connection tool). In it's Linux 'avtar', the machine uses
Squid. All the clients are Win98SE using Internet Explorer. IE can be
configured to 'Automatically detect proxy settings' or we can manually
specify the proxy address and port number.
But the problem is that the clients have to use the 'Automatically detect
settings' option if Win98SE is the proxy, since MS hasn't provided the user
with an option to specify the port number of the proxy. Since I don't know
the port which it uses, I can't configure the client and have to use the
'Auto' option.
In case of Squid, we can set the proxy port and set the client to it
manually, and it works fine. Instead, if the 'Auto' option is used on the
client, it doesn't work.
So, you see my problem, I don't mind setting the clients to 'manual' or
'Auto', so long as they work with both Squid and Windows. The situation can
be solved if someone knows the port numberWin98SE proxy uses, or if... I
checked the Win98 help file, and some of the books I've but no go.
