Isn't it because of the Xserver mode ??
How much video RAM do you have... and what resolution are you using ?
X doesn't work too well on cards with 1MB of video RAM!
#/usr/local/bin/wvdialconf /etc/wvdialconf
edit /etc/wvdialconf (add name,pass,phone#)
#/usr/local/bin/wvdial
and you should be able to get online!
