I just want to log into the Linux server and use its resources from a Linux 
client.

Thanks for the tip regarding NIS. Can we use Samba for the same purpose?

smbclient \\\\Tintin\\cd -U username

I used  the above command to connect to the samba server.  Any easier 
technique?
