possibly this is your sshd. Or some other security concious network
daemon. Network daemons are risky to run as root, since if anybody can
break in he can take up its execution permissions i.e that of root. So
generally daemons su themselves to a harmless uid.

could be just that, i.e a hardware bug. Check for that exact phrase on
google. Even my chipset is a via one, havent faced it yet ( but then i
dont look into logs unless something is fishy )
