Nothing wrong with FTP/Telnet... its just that mgetty works over a serial
line and does not involve TCP/IP. To be able to use TCP/IP over a serial
line you will need to run PPP or SLIP.

So to use FTP you will need to configure the server to start PPP when you
dial-up. Look at the PPP-Howto for more info about setting up PPP over a
serial line.
